Viewing yourself through God's eyes!

As a female in this society, we struggle with body image and self-esteem more than others. Daily, I struggle with the constant comparing of myself to other women around me. From the uneven tone of my skin, to my not so flat tummy, and even the texture and thickness of my hair.

However, as I begin to grow into my own skin I'm starting to realize that the constant comparing doesn't benefit me in any way. In my walk with Christ, I strive to learn more and more of who he is so that I may find myself in him. When I'm constantly comparing myself to others, I miss out on understanding how God sees me.

Body Image and Self-Esteem have the most impact on a person's well being. By definition body image is a person's perception of their physical self and the thoughts and feelings, positive, negative or both, which result from that perception.

One reason why we struggle to understand who we are and who we are meant to be is because we focus on the outward appearance. Body Image is the manifestation of thinking that we know ourselves only from the outside.

The Bible speaks on how God knows us, it says, "But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart."" - 1 Samuel 16:7 To even get a glimpse of how God sees you, look inwardly towards your heart and there you will find your true self.

By definition self-esteem is the way people think about themselves, and how worthwhile they feel. In Psalm 139:13-14 it says, "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." Our self-esteem is based upon how we were made and from whom we were made. Not on how worthy we feel based on feelings or importance.

Heart Check: When you wake up in the morning and look into the mirror, do you immediately start to nitpick at the things that you don't like? If so, start your day off differently by affirming yourself in a Godly way.
